Hi everyone,
I was so excited to get a phone call from Kevin tonight at 11:10 pm! He was very concerned for all of the friends and families back home who have been anxiously awaiting any word. He was quite bummed that the internet is still down at the base and probably won’t be up and running at all. He is hoping to get to an internet cafe tomorrow morning to upload some team posts from each day. He is going to copy and paste each team member’s page so they will be able to read what you have written to them. Unfortunately they will not be able to individually respond tomorrow, but maybe on Sunday or Monday.
Now for the rest of the story…they arrived late the first day and got very little sleep but they worked extremely hard and got done what needed to be done. Kevin says that “the village is AWESOME” and it has been incredible staying in the village. There has only been a “little rain” but it never affected the work, too much. (Now I am not sure how much rain he meant other than that it didn’t seem to slow them up at all! What a God Sighting!!) He said the dedications were wonderful and there will be more details tomorrow! Everyone is doing well. There are a few with upset stomaches but nothing major. The ride back to Chimaltenango had to be its own adventure! They needed to borrow a third van to get the team and all the luggage back to the base. The borrowed van lost it’s front wheel but God once again protected the team. The van had been slowing down when it happened so the driver, Max, never lost control of the van! Praise God! They piled all the luggage and team into the other 2 vans and finally made it back to the base. They are all tired but are eager to get to the medical clinics tomorrow. They are hoping to leave around 1 pm.
We only had a few minutes to talk and this was what he shared. Please pray for the team because they are a bit bummed that they can’t go on the internet to talk with all of you! Pray that this doesn’t become a discouragement for them! Pray that as they are exhausted that they will not get sick. Pray for the team, that they stay as a unified team even though they have not been able to have as many large and small group times as we have had in the past, due to the many changes. This is where we trust that God has this all planned out. He knew that this team needed to be tired, faced with challenges that were out of their control like airplanes not leaving on time or tires coming off and even not having the internet! This will all be for His glory and I can’t wait to see what happens next because I know that God will make everything beautiful!
Their mission shifts tomorrow. They will get to sleep in and hopefully we will hear more details about the past few days. Thank you for your continued prayers. Please keep posting on the individual pages they will get to read them and they will be very encouraged by your words!
In His Grip!

Comment by Jodi Berens June 21, 2008 @ 9:15 amThank you so much for the update. Even though we haven’t heard a lot, we trust all is well and that it’s in God’s hand, not ours. It sounds like there will be a lot of interesting stories. Hope all is going well at the VanWyhe’s without Kevin, as I’m sure you’re used to having him on these trips (I can definitely relate). Thanks again for keeping us in the loop and let them know we are constantly keeping the team in our thoughts and prayers as well as those back here anxiously awaiting news. Sounds like “patience” is one of the virtues we all need these days.
Love to all!
