What a touching prayer time together this morning when we sent you all off. There was probably not a person there who did not wish that they were able to jump on that bus and go along. Thanks for leading, we will be praying and watching the site – hourly – for updates of your work. Thanks for organizing this group, for always challenging us to keep serving, and for your boundless energy that keeps everyone going. Blessings to you all, Carole and the Ivanrest few left behind…….
Comment by Carole Pettijohn June 17, 2008 @ 11:46 pmKevin! I can’t believe you’re back in Guatemala…and you have no idea how badly christina and I wish we could be there too! (but rachel’s wedding is friday). I know it’s going to be hard to build the house without me in your group but you’ll just have to work extra hard

Comment by Elizabeth Weller June 18, 2008 @ 2:22 amKevin,
We are so thankful for you and how you allow God to use you in so many ways! Thank you for pouring your life into so many kids lives, including ours. You make a life out of what you give, not out of what you get – thank you for living out this principle tirelessly. May you continue to grow in the grace and love of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Well, the walls are all up and you are probably taping and putting the first coats of mud on the walls. How big of a window did you put in this time? I wish I was there. I am trying to keep the moms calm since they haven’t heard anything from you guys yet. I have had 9 calls already.
I keep telling all of them that “No news is good news!” We are all doing great. The kids are working hard today helping me get ready for my open house tomorrow. I love you so much and I can’t wait to hear how it has gone! Love you more!

Kevin,
I am sure by now you are safe and sound in the remote village after a long night of travel. Our prayers will continue for you and the team during the next fews days for the challenges and blessings that await. Thanks for pouring your heart, passion and gifts into this ministry. The kids and some adults will never be the same again.
I cant wait to hear and read what is going on because as you know first hand, something amazing ALWAYS happens in Guat.

Comment by Karen Lepine June 18, 2008 @ 5:46 pmAh, the joys of traveling….
I hope you were able to rest a little last night before the 1st big day. Team prayer on the foundation, walls up, drilling, mudding – it all brings back great memories. Well, maybe not the mudding – don’t remind Dan about our team
I pray that you’ll get a good night’s rest, that you are seeing affirmation of the team selections that I know you prayed about, and that you & the team are staying healthy.
Mucho blessings,
Karen
THANK YOU for everything you do!!!

Comment by Jodi Berens June 19, 2008 @ 8:49 pmHope all is going well down in Guatemala. Even though it’s hard to know what’s going on, Kristy’s words that “no news is good news” is very comforting. I’m sure this trip is going to be just as wonderful as each other trip. We are keeping you in our thoughts and prayers constantly. Thank you so much for bringing this group again, may it always continue. Take care, stay healthy and have a wonderful time.
Love, the Berens
PS – Hope Kelly is pulling her weight!!
Hi Kev,
You are in my thoughts and prayers constantly. It doesn’t seem like I ever stop praying, it is like a constant conversation with God. I know that you are exactly where you need to be and that this team is the perfect team for what God wants you to get accomplished. I pray for Dan as I am sure he has so much on his shoulders. I pray for tonights devotion time that it is a blessing to all of you. I miss the singing! I can’t wait to hear from you.

Comment by Karen Lepine June 19, 2008 @ 10:30 pmSeems kind of strange that we haven’t been “in touch” thru the blog. I know how much of an encouragement the e-mails are to the team and also to the family members. The days go by SO fast in Guate and everyone at home is glued to their computers waiting for updates. But, this is all part of God’s plan. Maybe it’s to teach us a little patience and more reliance on HIM! I pray that everyone will be able to read their messages on Friday night and be filled with energy & encouragement for the weekend medical clinics and testimonies.
Praying extra hard tomorrow during the dedications for many lives to be saved!!
Thank you so much for being an incredible leader and witness for the LORD.
Stay strong – stay healthy!!!
God bless,
Karen
p.s. Kristy is right – the TS Open House was awesome!!! Was the most expensive lunch Kirk and I have ever had
Comment by Karen Lepine June 19, 2008 @ 10:51 pmKevin:
Know that you and the team are in our prayers as you do the work God has called you all to do with His beloved children in Guatemala. The dedication of the homes is a great day, and we pray that God’s love and mercy will shine brightly through you. May that love change lives, from generation to generations, for all eternity! We can’t wait to read the stories and see the pictures!

Kev,
Things have been going well here! Me and the kids just got back from the library, so they are all busy reading. We had some bad news here and would love to have the team pray for the Hoekwater family. Their home burnt down last night! Thankfully they were on vacation so they were not at home but the house is a total loss. It started in the garage and went right up to the attic, had they been home, it is difficult to see how they would’ve gotten out in time. It started around 3 am and their bedrooms are all upstairs. The one staircase is right next to the garage so it would’ve been near impassable. Since their home is brick, the outer walls are intact but nothing is left inside. the firemen said it was an incredibly hot fire and they were so grateful that no one was home. Please keep Mike, Janey, Brett, Grant and Reece Hoekwater in your prayers. They will be getting home tonight. We went over there this afternoon to see if there was anything we could do to help. They needed containers so I brought them 2 of our green tubs. They will need a lot more help. Thankfully the minister and his wife, who live next door to them, have been incredibly gracious. Their front lawn has been turned into a recovery place. Tomorrow the ministers church was planning on doing a car wash at Fifth Third by D&W for their youth group but they have decided to donate all money to the Hoekwaters! God is so Good!!
I love you tons and miss you so much! I am praying for you as you make the move to Chimaltenango tonight! I know that the dedications were awesome, I can’t wait to hear the details!

Good morning sweetheart,
I pray that today you are able to find an internet cafe and things will go smoothly on that end, so you can upload the updates. Greg is picking up Chris at 8:15am for the baseball game. Your folks are trying to come for it as well. Last night your brothers kidnapped your dad and took him to the Get Smart movie. They had called on Tuesday to see if you were able to go with them. I thought it was a great idea. I am sorry you weren’t able to do that with them.
It was so good hearing your voice last night!! I actually was able to sleep!
I love you tons! I am praying that everything goes smoothly today at the medical clinic and that lives will be changed, both from the village and on the team!
I miss you! Take care of yourself today! You are surrounded with angelic protection!

My first trip to Guat i loved the building part until God touched upon my heart the spreading of the gospel, something i felt was not my gift, and you know how he just exposed to me how i myself through JESUS CHRIST could share my faith in the way he created me to do it. Thanks for your friendship and i pray all is going well with you and the team. Thanks again for your leadership. Love ya ALAN

Know that you are constantly being surrounded in prayer! I pray that today’s medical clinic was an expression of the awesome power of our loving GOD. Stay strong, stay healthy. I pray that tomorrow is another day of healing for the physical and spiritual needs of the people you are blessed to serve. You are an incredible leader and I am so proud to be able to call you a brother in Christ.
Many mucho blessings for you on Sunday!

Kevin,
We have prayed for you and the team all week; bathing you in the power of the Lord for the task that he placed before you once again. You may be in the same country but HE always directs your team to an amazing new mission field. WE eagerly anticipate hearing all of the details upon your return. It looks as though you have accomplished much already but we know that the plans of the Lord are incomplete until you board the plane for home. May you feel HIS presence in a mightly way during these last two days.

Comment by Kristy Van Wyhe June 22, 2008 @ 12:47 pmYou did a great job in the update today! Thank you for painting such a beautiful picture of what you are experiencing. I will pray that your fever goes away and that you will be ok for the rest of the trip. Thank you for taking the time to update and post the pictures. At church this morning Pastor Tony used the team as an example of what we are all called to do. Many many many people came up to me to tell me they are praying for you and the team. I love you so much and am so proud of you! Have a great time at the second village!
Kris
Hi Kevin –
I hope that everything is going well with the 2nd medical clinic. It’s about 9:30pm here Sunday night so you’re probably into the showing of the Jesus film & testimonies now. I pray that many of the people in the village have seen the love of Christ in all of you today and will come forward tonight to accept HIM into their hearts.
Tony had a great message this morning titled “Shine Like Stars” based on Philippians 2. I kept thinking of all you “stars” in Guatemala. So often, it’s easier for us to choose the darkness and be of the world instead of choosing the light. I’m so thankful that you are leading this team and that everyone has chosen to be GOD’S light in Guatemala this week. I’m confident that many lives have been changed for eternity!!
Continuing to lift you & the team up in prayer and can’t wait to see all of you on Tuesday.
Mucho mucho blessings & love,
Karen
p.s. give Estuardo a big punch in the arm for me – he’ll know why
Comment by Karen Lepine June 22, 2008 @ 9:49 pmHi Kevin, Thank you so much for your updates this past week. What amazing things God has done through your team. I feel so priveledged to have
Rachel along and to participate in ministry
like this. What a wonderful opportunity to work
with and for the Lord and see the
Spirit move and breath through the somewhat
ordinary things of life.WOW! Thank you for all you do, not for yourself but for God’s glory.

Comment by Judy Holsem June 23, 2008 @ 6:58 amStill feeling the priviledge of praying for you all week. As we read the updates and look at the photos, Joni filled in the gaps of all that your team is involved in. We reflect on how this trip impacts the people of Guatemala each year, but also how many lives in OUR community have been changed forever because of the work that you lead in this mission. We Praise God for changed lives and thank you for including Jeff and so many others in this life changing experience. God’s love shines through you and your family (who so willingly give you up each year)and we lift you all up in prayer. In Christ, Judy Holsem

I can’t imagine how tired and exhausted you must be from coordinating & leading a group of 30 people. I pray that your fever goes away & you are able to sleep on the plane. I pray too that as much as you have been a blessing this week to our team, the people in Guate, Dan & Heidi, Estuardo, Hermano Jesus, and so many others, that God blessed YOU richly as well. Finish strong & safe travels tomorrow. GOD is GOOD!
