Good Morning Rachel,
We know that this is the day you are leaving. Our prayer today is for safe travel. There is a big part of us that would like to be coming with you. (Then there is the remote village part that makes us thankful for all that we have and take for granted.) Love the people of Guatemala for us and our two grandsons who were born there. GOD BLESS YOU AND KEEP YOU!!

Wow! Another mission trip to Guatemala and another opportunity to see God and be used by Him in ways that I can not even imagine! I remember the last time you were there–you were faithful in following the prompting of the Holy Spirit and shared your testimony. You changed lives for ETERNITY. And your faith grew! I know that you will be open to do all that God calls you to do on this trip as well–I’ll be praying for that you will be focused and ready when He gives you another opportunity!
Take good care of your girls!

Comment by Lisa Van Dyken June 19, 2008 @ 11:32 pmHow are you? I hope you are doing
great and that you are healthy and
getting some rest now. We miss you
very much and with Dad gone as well
it seems very quiet in the Van Dyken
household! We did get a small update
today that you did all arrive safely
and have started your building. We pray
that you will be able to finish
the work that the Lord has brought
you down there to do, especially in
the village. As I go to bed tonight
I think of the familiar words of
Romans 8:28 “All things work together
for the good of those who love him
and have been called according to
HIS purpose” I know that you have
been called to go back to Guatemala
and know that God will work out all
things for his glory! What a blessing
to KNOW that! Sleep well my dear!

Hi Again,
Talked to Sam today and thought about you working in his home country. Our prayer is that you are getting caught up on some of that missed sleep, and that you are healthy and well. Remember Psalm 46 — God is your refuge and strength in all that you do. Can’t wait to see your pictures and hear your stories.
Comment by David and Ellen Vanden Berg June 20, 2008 @ 9:57 amDavid and Ellen
Rachel,
Last year you overcame your fear, stood up in front of a village, and gave your testimony. It was an amazing moment. I hope that this year you are not only able to do that again, but also to get out of your comfort zone in another way and again reap the wonderful rewards of being “sold out for Christ”!
“Though you have not seen him, you love him; and even though you do not see him now, you believe in him and are filled with an inexpressible and glorious joy.” 1 Peter 1:8

I pray that you stay healthy and if you are feeling crummy that it will only be for a short time. I am praying for you now as you are heading to the village. You have probably just arrived and are beginning to get to know the beautiful people you will be ministering to tonight. Comment by Sharon Nienhuis June 22, 2008 @ 8:11 pmJust a quick note to let you know that we have been praying for your constantly as you minister to many in the beautiful country of Guatemala. Just reading the post from Kevin brings tears to my eyes as it is so evident that GOD is moving and working in many lives. You are bringing hope to many that feel hopeless. I absolutely love the pictures of you and the kids. I hope and pray that you are staying healthy. It is hard to believe that you will be back in just 2 days. Enjoy your day tomorrow in Antigua and we pray that things go smoothly for you to meet up with Jorge. We love you very much and will continue to pray for you, your group and your family who misses you so much back home.
Blessings
Sharon

Hi Everyone
Comment by Lisa Van Dyken June 23, 2008 @ 10:29 pmJust thought I would update those
who were so faithful to pray for
Rachel meeting up with Jorge today.
She went to the MacDonalds she thought
they had planned on meeting at but
after she waited there for quiet
some time she found out that he
was in another town waiting for her
at a MacDonalds. She was able to
get over to where he was in about
an hour or so and then were finally
able to make a connection. So thank
you so much for your prayers that
this would happen for both of them.
Only a God as great as we serve
could plan and allow this to happen.
Thank you again so much and to God
we give all glory!!
Lisa
P.S Rachel we can’t wait to see you!

Dear Rachel
Comment by Sharon Nienhuis June 24, 2008 @ 8:55 amI have been watching the clock all night as I worked and have been thinking about you as you had your last group devotions and then an early rise and shine to get to the airport and start your trip back home. It sounds like you had another amazing trip with many incredible opportunities, and witnessing of God working in a mighty way amongst the Guatemalans and your Ivanrest group. I can’t wait to hear some of the amazing stories. I am so happy that you were able to meet up with Jorge despite some communication gaps. I am sure that it was a real special time for him to see you again. Thanks for all you have done for him. Have a safe trip home and we will continue to pray for you as you travel today.
Blessings
Sharon

Comment by Lisa Van Dyken June 25, 2008 @ 1:10 pmI made it home safe and sound last night, and am taking time today to recover and relax a little. Thank you all so much for the prayers, comments, and encouragement you gave me while i was in Guatemala. Once again it was a life changing trip which helped me to work throught some things I had been struggling with, challenged me to take my faith to an even deeper level, and made me so excited to be a Christian. What a great God we serve. Thank you all again. I’m sure most of you wil be hearing all about my trip within the next few days, so i will save all my stories for then! Thank you SO much.. your prayers really do make a difference, changing hearts and touching lives all around the world!
Until next year,
Rachel Van Dyken
Hope your trip was fabulous. We prayed for safety and success. Surely God has held you all in HIS powerful GRIP of GRACE. To God be the glory.
